Known for his "kaleidoscopic musical personality," Alex Yang is a percussionist and educator from Houston, Texas, whose diverse musical voice spans classical, contemporary, marching, and world traditions. His artistic philosophy centers on storytelling and creating an authentic, shared acoustic experience between the performer and the audience, earning recognition as “a beautiful, compelling display of virtuosity and artistry.”
As a performer, Alex has marched several seasons in DCI and WGI ensembles, made featured appearances at PASIC, and performed with numerous professional orchestras and wind ensembles across Texas and Colorado. He has also toured over a dozen conservatories internationally with the World Percussion Group as a chamber and solo artist, collaborating alongside some of the leading names in percussion, premiering new works.
Alex has worked extensively as an instructor and marching technician with premier programs throughout Texas and Colorado, as well as having spent several seasons as an educator with a number of Drum Corps. His holistic, methodical approach allows him to serve students of all experience levels, from absolute beginners to elite, robust performers at the Drum Corps level. He holds a Bachelor in Music Education from the University of North Texas and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder, where he previously served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.
